John Alden witch trial
John Alden
He was a member of the Boston elite. John Alden was accused on May 28th, 1692 but avoided further proceedings on April 25, 1693 when he escaped from jail and fled to New York where several profiled witchcraft defendants were protected. The accusers knew him by name that's it, his profitable connections to Maine and involvement with the Indian Wars which orphaned several of the accusers likely contributed to the accusations against him.
